Nigerian social media influencer and activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has threatened to sue MTN Nigeria after receiving an unsolicited promotional SMS about the Dangote Refinery IPO on his NIN-linked phone number.
According to VeryDarkMan, the text message was sent to him without his consent, promoting the ongoing Initial Public Offering of Dangote Refinery. The IPO, which opened on September 14, 2026, is offering 4.1 billion shares at ₦525 per share, with a minimum subscription of 10 shares amounting to ₦5,250.
The influencer expressed strong displeasure over the unsolicited message, stating that MTN had no right to use his NIN-linked number for marketing purposes without his permission. He has demanded a full explanation from the telecom giant and indicated that he is prepared to take legal action if the matter is not properly addressed.
VeryDarkMan is known for his outspoken stance on consumer rights, corporate accountability, and social justice issues in Nigeria. His threat of a lawsuit has once again drawn public attention to the growing concerns around data privacy and the use of personal information by telecom companies for marketing.
As of the time of this report, MTN Nigeria has yet to issue an official response regarding the incident.
The Dangote Refinery IPO continues to attract significant interest from Nigerian investors following its launch.
